hello! happy friday!

today for font love friday i'm gonna share the entry way wall art i made recently. my entry way has been looking pretty cluttered lately and i have been feeling the need to simplify it. it previously had a charging station (that was not plugged in because there is no outlet on this wall, so it wasn't charging anything), random books that needed to be put away, a change jar, art work and posters from the kids that needed to be put away, "treasure's in heaven" treasure boxes where the kids earn marbles when doing an act of kindness, and some clothes or hair clips from friends that forgot them here. that's A LOT of stuff for such a small area. and since it's the first thing people see when they walk in, i wanted it to make a much different statement. 

the quote actually comes from lyrics of a Watermark (Christy Nockels band with her husband) song. i just love that it makes such a bold statement, that we desire Jesus to INVADE our home, with his truth and light. and we want to proclaim that to all who enter our home.

to make this i spray painted a canvas with chalkboard paint, made lines across every 2.25" apart with regular chalk, then traced a Helvetica 2" stencil with a white chalk pen.

Helvetica is such a classic type, i love how this turned out.

i've stumbled upon some typography that just made me gasp! this is my favorite font of the week.

{INTRO}

ok, so i know it's Saturday... i meant to post this yesterday but got super busy. better late than never?

i love intro! such a fun font for a little boy. i knew it was perfect for the second in line of my bestie's kids, Ethan. he is such a sweet little ball of energy. he loves to be active and riding bikes is one of his favorite things, so i made sure to include one in this design. he also loves the color green so i went with a vibrant kelly green color. hopefully he likes the poster!

two down, two to go! Bekah, one of my best friends, has four kids and i'm working on a namesake poster for each one. such a fun project! 

what do you have going on today? i already did some crossfit and we're gonna take the kids to open gym to burn off some of their energy. it should be fun.

here we are attempting to get some new scenery. i was thinking the brick wall and fence would be a nice background... but with my littles as the photographers we got all the yucky spike balls and dirt. i need to start rethinking my photo backgrounds. anyone in Fresno know of good places? i think i'll also start taking pics in the afternoon since this morning light is so harsh. thanks for bearing with me as i figure out how to use a real camera vs. instagram! haha

i am currently growing out my bangs and, oh man, it is tough. all i want to do is cut them again! this in between phase is killing me. have you ever had bangs? did you resort to headbands for 6 months, like i want to... or do you have a magic tip you can share!?!

UPDATE: i know last week my what we wore wednesday post was a little heavy and i wanted to give a little update. i am currently reading a book called "Parenting with Love & Logic" by Foster Cline & Jim Fay. the main principal behind it is to stop taking unnecessary control over your kids life and allow them to learn responsibility through natural consequences. being the natural control freak that i am, i really feel like this book is giving me some great practical tips on giving up control and giving them choices so they feel more in control. 

anyway, things are getting better. slowly. but definitely better. i feel more patient, my heart is more calm. and i've seen both my kids work out problems for themselves and ask me for help with it's beyond them. its great to see them figure it out without me having to lecture them. 

have you read it? did it work for you? i'm not done and still trying to decide whats best for our family, but so far i like it.

i've stumbled upon some typography that just made me gasp! this is my favorite font of the week.

Duke

the last two namesake posters i did were for the girlies so i figured i better make one for the boys. let's hear it for the boys! (yes, old '80's songs pop into my head all the live long day, and i sing them). the font i'm using today is not only elegant, but super manly. perfect for a little man's room.

now it's stuck in your head. you're welcome.

this poster is for my sweet little guy. naming him was almost as hard as naming my daughter. it took us 3 days. i think we thought we would know just by looking at him, like he would come out saying his name or have a tag tied to his toe letting us know who he would be. we also wanted to make sure his name had meaning, that it would truly be his namesake. right now it's pretty true, that he's a happy kid... as i'm sure you've noticed from posts. he brings us crazy joy. and he is developing a love for Jesus, even now. the other day he told my husband that he wanted to be a pastor when he grows up. man, we have lots to pray about for him! that is not an easy calling. but if it is what he is truly called to do we will support him no matter what. 

do you remember when i did a tour of his room? i finally got around to printing a little poster for the super hero theme. little by little we are getting it together. my next HUGE project is to make those stinking quilts. poor guy has never had proper bedding. not that he cares. he loves one blanket and wants to only sleep with that. he gets that from his dad.

i've stumbled upon some typography that just made me gasp! this is my favorite font of the week.

isn't this type THE JAM!? the first time i saw it i instantly knew that i wanted to use it for my bestie's oldest daughter. to me, it just screams her name. as i started designing it my vision was confirmed all the more. i was inspired by her bedroom, which has the bold colors of red, pink, blue, orange, and yellow. she also has circle wall decals that look like colorful bubbles floating all over her room. it is too cute!

bekah, one of my dearest friends in all the land, requested that i add her birth stats... which i think is such a perfect touch to this little namesake mini-poster. 

i'm thinking about working on a giveaway for a custom designed namesake mini-poster, but am wondering if any of you lovely readers would be interested in one?

if i get good feedback i'll put something special together!

sketch block

i've stumbled upon some typography that just made me gasp! this is my favorite font of the week. 

remember when i posted THIS cute print in my love, sweet love inspiration board? 

well, with Valentine's day coming up {and i discovering that the font used was called Sketch Block} i just HAD to make my own smaller version for Big A to pass out to his classmates for his first Valentine's Day party. the original is way more awesome than the one i made, but kindergartners don't care! and i hope the original artist is a firm believer in imitation being flattery! because i would never want to offend. go get the real print and support small businesses!!! 

my little dinosaur was made up of different shapes...ha! but again, kindergartners don't care! and my son loved them. 

happy Friday! we will be doing our regular tradition of Family Movie Night tonight with the kids. i'll make paleo pizza and we'll give them sparkling juice because they think its soda, and maybe even make some paleo chocolate chip cookies. once the kiddos hit the hay my husband and i will indulge in our new favorite show, Downton Abbey, on Netflix. its all the rage. everyone i know is watching it. and now we're totally hooked.

i've stumbled upon some typography that just made me gasp! this is my favorite font of the week. 

one thing you may or may not know about me is that i love typography. and by love i mean that it gives me a little personal high; like a giant cup of ridiculously good coffee that you sip slowly while chatting with your best friend that you haven't seen in a while, or that bread pudding that tastes like it was made with croissants, or when you were little being so excited the night before going to Disneyland that you couldn't sleep... you know what i mean? no? oh...

that is how much I love typography. 

and i figured since i love typography so much, and am an amateur graphic designer, i should start making beautiful prints with some of my favorite fonts to share with you. one of my best friend's gave me this great idea when she asked me to make namesake posters for each of her children. i thought, what a great idea! to personalize it based on the color of their room, or what toy they have obsessed about since they could grab something, or just the font that screams their name when i see it. 

when searching for new fonts i stumbled across this one and it immediately made me think of my own daughter... so i jumped on my first namesake design. 

not the best picture (or print, our home printer is broken and i would love to outsource this on a heavy weight paper)... but you get the idea.

my daughter's namesake. it's a great one. with a great story behind it. i've told some, but not all. maybe one day i'll share it here. i look forward to seeing if it's true for her.
